There is something almost unfair about how quickly a baby’s first year passes.
One day, you are holding a tiny newborn who curls perfectly against your chest. Then come the first smiles, chubby cheeks, wobbly sitting, belly laughs, curious little expressions—and suddenly, you are planning a first birthday.
Each stage feels enormous while you are living it.
And then, somehow, it becomes a memory.
As a baby milestone photographer in Knoxville, TN, one of my favorite things is watching the same little babies return to my studio throughout their first year. I get to see their personalities unfold right in front of my camera—and give their parents something tangible to remember each beautiful stage.
The Newborn Stage:
So Tiny, So Fleeting
Those first newborn days are unlike anything else.
Tiny fingers. Sleepy stretches. Delicate eyelashes. The way your baby fits into your hands.
Newborn portraits preserve details that change almost before you have time to notice them.
My newborn sessions are designed to be peaceful, baby-led, and filled with soft, timeless details so the photographs feel just as beautiful years from now as they do today.
Three Months:
Hello, Little Personality
Around three months, something wonderful begins to happen.
Your baby is no longer quite that sleepy newborn. They are becoming more alert, recognizing familiar voices, making expressions, and beginning to show glimpses of their personality.
These sessions are wonderful for capturing tummy time, sweet expressions, little stretches, and those increasingly curious eyes.
And no, your baby does not have to smile for the session to be beautiful.
Serious faces, surprised expressions, tiny pouts and even those wonderfully dramatic baby faces are part of their story, too.
Six Months:
The Deliciously Chubby Stage
Oh, six months.
This is one of my favorite ages to photograph.
Many babies are beginning to sit with assistance or independently. Their personalities are blooming, their cheeks are wonderfully round, and we often get everything from huge smiles to intensely serious little stares.
It is also the perfect stage for showing off those adorable baby rolls that won’t last nearly long enough.
Nine Months:
Curious, Busy & Full of Expression
By nine months, babies usually have opinions.
And I absolutely love it.
They may crawl, clap, giggle, grab their toes, explore every prop within reach—or decide that sitting exactly where we planned is simply not on today’s agenda.
That’s okay.
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s capturing your baby as they are right now.
And Then... They're One
How did we get here already?
The first birthday is such an emotional milestone because when you look at your one-year-old, you can suddenly see just how much has changed.
That tiny newborn has become this funny, curious, determined little person.
First birthday portraits celebrate not only your baby’s birthday, but the entire journey that brought your family here.
What If My Baby Doesn't Smile?
This is one of the questions parents ask me most often.
Please don’t worry.
Your baby’s session isn’t a performance.
Some babies smile at everyone. Some need a little time. Some give me the most hilariously suspicious expressions for half the session.
Those expressions matter, too.
Years from now, you won’t only want to remember what your baby looked like when they smiled. You’ll want to remember them—their expressions, their personality and all the little things that made this stage uniquely theirs.
One Baby. One Year.
An Entire Story.
This is where I would introduce your Watch Me Grow experience.
Instead of photographing these stages as completely separate moments, Watch Me Grow creates a visual story of how much your baby changes during that extraordinary first year.
From newborn through 3, 6, 9 and 12 months, we intentionally create portraits that belong together.
The same little baby.
Growing right before your eyes.
And when the series is complete, those photographs become something much more meaningful than individual portraits—they become a record of your baby’s first year.

You don’t need to photograph every single day to remember your baby’s childhood.

The three-month-old discovering the world.
The six-month-old with those irresistible cheeks.

And the one-year-old who suddenly doesn’t look quite so much like a baby anymore.
