Pregnancy is such a strange and beautiful season.
For months, you are waiting to meet someone you already love.
Your body is changing. Your family is changing. And somewhere between preparing the nursery, choosing a name, and counting down the weeks, it can be easy to forget that this chapter deserves to be remembered, too.
Maternity photography isn’t simply about documenting a growing belly.
It’s about remembering the woman you were while you were becoming your baby’s mother.
At Yulia Moore Photography, I create elegant, timeless maternity portraits for expecting mothers and families throughout Knoxville and East Tennessee—photographs designed to make you feel beautiful now and become even more meaningful as the years pass.
When Is the Best Time to Schedule Maternity Photos?
One of the first questions expecting mothers ask is, “When should I have my maternity pictures taken?”
For most pregnancies, the ideal time is around 28–34 weeks.
At this stage, your belly is beautifully defined, but you are generally still comfortable enough to move between poses and enjoy your session.
Every pregnancy is different, though.
If you’re expecting multiples or your baby may arrive early, scheduling your session a little sooner may be a better choice.
The most important thing is not waiting until the very end. Babies have their own schedules, and those last few weeks can become uncomfortable surprisingly quickly.
When Should I Book My Maternity Photography Session?
While the actual photographs are usually taken later in pregnancy, I recommend booking your maternity session earlier.
This gives us time to plan your session without rushing.
We can discuss the look you love, wardrobe choices, who you’d like included, and the overall feeling you want your portraits to have.
And because maternity sessions need to happen within a relatively small window, reserving early also gives you a better selection of available dates.
What Should I Wear for My Maternity Photos?
This is probably one of the biggest worries women have before their session.
You don’t need to know how to style yourself for maternity photographs.
That’s part of the experience.
Your clothing should complement your body, your personality, and the style of portraits we’re creating.
Flowing maternity gowns can create soft, romantic images, while fitted pieces beautifully emphasize the shape of your pregnancy.
Simple fabrics and neutral colors can create timeless portraits where all the attention stays on you.
And sometimes something beautifully unexpected—a bodysuit, draped fabric, jeans, or a more fashion-inspired look—creates an entirely different side of your maternity gallery.
Your session doesn’t have to fit into just one style.
I Don't Know How to Pose.
Is That Okay?
Absolutely.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
That’s my job.
Small adjustments in the position of your hands, shoulders, chin, hips, and even where you’re looking can completely change a photograph.
Throughout your session, I’ll guide you through each pose so you never have to wonder:
“What am I supposed to do with my hands?”
We’ll create a mixture of full-length portraits and beautiful close-up images that focus on your face, your belly, your hands, and the connection you already have with your baby.
Can My Partner Be Included in My Maternity Session?
Yes—and I encourage it.
Pregnancy isn’t only the beginning of your baby’s story. It’s a chapter in your relationship, too.
Partner portraits don’t need to feel stiff or overly posed.
A hand resting over yours.
A kiss on your forehead.
The two of you looking at each other.
Both hands surrounding your belly.
These simple interactions create photographs that feel intimate and genuine.
And someday your child gets to see something pretty wonderful:
how loved they were before you had even met them.
Can My Children Be Included?
Of course.
Including older children can make your maternity portraits especially meaningful because you’re documenting your family right before it changes forever.
Little ones can hug your belly, stand close to Mom and Dad, or simply interact naturally with your family.
Older children and teenagers can be included beautifully as well.
These don’t have to be perfectly posed family portraits.
Sometimes the most meaningful photograph is simply a sibling’s hand resting on Mom’s belly while everyone waits to meet the newest member of the family.
What If I Don't Feel Photogenic During Pregnancy?
This one matters.
Pregnancy can make you feel beautiful one day and completely unlike yourself the next.
Your body is doing something extraordinary—but that doesn’t mean you’re automatically going to feel comfortable standing in front of a camera.
You don’t need to arrive feeling like a model.
Beautiful maternity photography comes from understanding flattering light, angles, wardrobe, posing, and the little details that help you feel comfortable.
My goal isn’t to turn you into someone else.
It’s to create photographs where you look at yourself and think,
“I can’t believe that’s me.”
Your Maternity Session Can Be More Than One Look
One of the things I love about maternity photography is how many different sides of this season we can capture.
Your gallery can feel soft and romantic in one photograph…
Elegant and timeless in another…
And confident, modern, or dramatic in the next.
You don’t have to choose between being a mother and feeling beautiful as a woman.
You are both.
From Maternity to Newborn:
Two Chapters of One Story
One of the most beautiful things about photographing maternity and newborn sessions together is seeing the story continue.
During your maternity session, your baby exists in the curve of your belly, your hands resting gently over them, and the anticipation on your family’s faces.
A few weeks later, that same little baby is finally in your arms.
The two galleries become connected chapters:
Waiting for you.
And then…
Meeting you.
Maternity Photography in Knoxville & East Tennessee
Yulia Moore Photography specializes in maternity, newborn, and baby milestone photography for families throughout Knoxville, Loudon, Lenoir City, Maryville, Oak Ridge, and surrounding East Tennessee communities.
My studio experience is designed to take the uncertainty out of maternity photography.
You don’t have to know how to pose.
You don’t have to have the perfect wardrobe figured out.
And you certainly don’t need to wait until you feel “photogenic enough.”
You only get to carry this baby for a little while.
Someday, your child may look at these photographs and see you waiting for them.
But you’ll see something else, too.
You’ll remember who you were in the beautiful moment just before everything changed.
